The Trail of the Lonesome Pine is an outdoor drama that accurately depicts the changes that occurred in Big Stone Gap during the Industrial Revolution. The drama portrays the discovery of coal and iron ore in Southwest Virginia through a tender love story between a Virginia mountain girl and a young, eastern mining engineer. The mountain lovebirds were forced to make drastic changes in their way of life and the result is a fascinating.

The drama is acted before a 72-foot panoramic painting of the valley known as Lonesome Cove. Trail of the Lonesome Pine features the wit and humor of mountain folk amidst tragedy, suspense, and sometimes violence. These mountain folk are forced to accept their new way of life in this beautiful drama that features original live folk music and dancing.

Bring the family along for an evening of entertainment while you experience the heartfelt drama expressing the trials of Southwest Virginia mountain folk. Trail of the Lonesome Pine invites you to experience the longest running outdoor drama surrounded by the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. Performances are offered Thursday through Saturday evenings, and begin at 8:00 pm following pre-show entertainment.
