Festivals in Wise County are abundant and attract many visitors to the area year-round. Festivals unique to Wise Virginia include the Wise County Famous Fall Fling and Virginia Bluegrass Festivals, including the Ralph Stanly Memorial Bluegrass Festival. Additional festivals attract guests to the neighboring towns of Norton, St Paul, Appalachia, and Pound.

Festivals in Wise
For more than thirty years, the annual Famous Fall Fling has drawn visitors to historic downtown Wise. The Fall Fling features more than one hundred vendors displaying Appalachian arts and crafts. The vendors in attendance at the Fall Fling showcase a variety of art mediums including: wood, pottery, photography, candles and soaps, antiques, and Native American and traditional Appalachian crafts. Additionally, endless events, such as the chili cook off, contests, and demonstrations, make the two-day festival family friendly by offering something for everyone.

Memorial Day weekend in Coeburn Virginia draws bluegrass enthusiasts to the Annual Ralph Stanley Bluegrass Festival. Camping is available for the three-day music event, so grab your spot early because the campsites fill up quickly. Tickets are for sale at the gate; no advance sales. More than twenty bluegrass headliners make this festival one of the best Virginia Bluegrass Festivals. Come enjoy pure bluegrass straight from the mountains, written from the heart and played from the soul. Neighboring Festivals
Summer is abundant in Norton Virginia with the annual Best Friend Festival. The festival is sponsored by the Wise County Chamber of Commerce, City of Norton, and area businesses. The five-day celebration takes place at Norton City Park and includes events for friends of all ages. The annual Best Friend Festival features events such as Friday Night Block Party, Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, Regional Rehab 5K Run, Splish Splash Pool Blast, Senior Citizen’s Day, and Gospel Singing among all the vendors and great foods. Be sure to bring your best friend along!

Since 1972 Home Craft Days has been celebrated on the campus of Mountain Empire Community College. Home Craft Days is one of the best Virginia Craft Festivals and is held in late October, drawing musicians and craftspeople from southwest Virginia, east Tennessee, and eastern Kentucky. For more than thirty years the traditional crafts, music, and mountain life have been celebrated at this three-day event. Showcased crafts include weaving, pottery, grist milling, wood crafting, basket weaving, broom making, and quilting. Come explore the traditional mountain crafts in the heart of Appalachia.
